The Story of Gedling

A Village in

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE

by

F.M. SWANN, M.A. (Oxon)

This was first published, privately, in book form in October 1979 by F.M. Swann. It was dedicated to Letty, her old friend Ms Letty Lewenz.

Original Acknowledgments

I wish to give my warmest thanks to the Rector and Vicar of Gedling, the Rev. Canon C.H.B. Watson, M.A. (Oxon) for his great kindness in allowing me to consult the Registers of All Hallows' Church, and to the Mr R Blant, the Parish Clerk, for his help in the using of them. Also, to all those inhabitants of Gedling whose names are too numerous to mention, who have willingly given me information about the village as they knew it in the past. Any profits on the sale of this pamphlet will go to All Hallows' Church towards the upkeep of the fabric.

Transcriber's Note

I have tried to reproduce the pamphlet as well as I can. I have made a few alterations to accomodate the new media, and, I have no doubt, more than a few unintentional ones, for which I apologise. I would like to thank the current Rector of Gedling the Rev. Mark Beech and Ms Lewenz, herself, for permission to reproduce this pamphlet. Ms Swann having died a few years ago. I hope her spirit is not too displeased with me. We have included a short biography and obituary written by Ms Lewenz.

Needless to say All Hallow's Church is still in need of work to maintain the fabric and has launched an appeal for funds. I am sure the Rev Mark Beech would welcome any and all contributions. He may be contacted at markb@innotts.co.uk.
